Website with API integration in accordance with WCAG 2.1 guidelines

The Tax Cooperation Association of Municipalities and Water Boards (BsGW) administers local taxation and tax collection and determines property tax assessment values. Nearly all municipalities in Limburg and the Limburg Water Board are affiliated with BsGW.

Accessible in accordance with WCAG 2.1 guidelines

We developed a completely new website for BsGW. A site that meets all government requirements; in addition to legal obligations, the website is accessible according to WCAG 2.1 guidelines. This means: barrier-free for everyone and accessible to the visually impaired. Paying

bills, requesting property tax assessments, online help; everything is possible via the site.  For instance, the website features a comprehensive FAQ module. Through an API connection to Polly.help’s knowledge management software, both customers and BsGW staff can easily find answers themselves. Searching the website is very straightforward; for example, alternative search suggestions are provided. Site visitors can easily indicate what is unclear, and BsGW staff can process this feedback directly within the system. BsGW can also publish its annual report online in an engaging way—not as a book in a PDF file, but as a complete website.

What are the WCAG 2.1 guidelines

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 are a set of guidelines developed to ensure that web content is accessible to people with various types of disabilities. These guidelines are used by website developers to ensure that their websites are usable by everyone, regardless of their limitations.

There are four key principles of the WCAG 2.1 guidelines: perceivability, operability, understandability, and robustness. These principles are designed to ensure that a website is accessible to all users, including people with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities.

The perceivability principles relate to how content is presented to users. This includes using color contrasts, providing alternative text for images, and offering captions for videos.

The operability principles relate to how users can navigate and interact with the website. This includes providing alternative navigation options for users who cannot use a mouse and allowing sufficient time for users to read and understand content.

The comprehensibility principles relate to the clarity and simplicity of the website’s content. This includes using simple language and avoiding jargon and complex sentences.

The robustness principles relate to the technical aspects of the website and ensure that the website functions correctly on various devices and browsers.

Implementing the WCAG 2.1 guidelines on a website can help improve the website’s accessibility for people with disabilities. It can also enhance the user experience for all users, as it makes the website more user-friendly.

When creating a website, it is important to take the WCAG 2.1 guidelines into account and implement them wherever possible. This can ensure that your website is accessible to all users and that you comply with legal accessibility requirements.
