Checklist for Launching Your Website - Content

After months of hard work on your website, the moment has finally arrived: Your website is ready to go live. Many people think, “Oh, we’ll just do that quickly,” but as the process unfolds, you realize that building a website is actually quite a lot of work.

That’s why we’ve created a concise overview of the points that both you and we need to keep in mind when launching your website. A checklist to dot the i’s and cross the t’s. We’ve broken it down into content, SEO, design, user-friendliness, and technology.

The first topic we’ll cover in this blog is the website’s content—an essential part of any website. Over the coming weeks, we’ll also walk through the other sections point by point.

Website Content Checklist

  •  Since visitors have limited time and attention, you should start your text with the most important information. Place this briefly and clearly at the top, then follow up with more specific content.
  • Check your web texts for spelling and stylistic errors. It’s best to have the texts read by several test readers or hire an editor to review them.
  • Ensure a consistent tone in your texts and keep them short and simple. Modern readers prefer sentences shorter than 35 words.
  • The internet is for everyone—not just experts. With the right words, your web text will be clear even to someone who knows nothing about the subject. For example, spell out abbreviations in full the first time they appear. Explain words that most of your customers won’t know. If you prefer to keep your text brief, add a link to a page with further explanation.
  • Make your page easy to scan by 1) using bullet points, 2) using headings and subheadings, and 3) always using white space.
  • Contact information is easy to find. There is a clear link to the contact page.
  • Make links to external platforms, such as social media channels, easy to find.
  • Enhance your content with images or infographics to explain things clearly to your visitors.
  • Forms redirect to thank-you pages.

In the next "episode," we’ll look at the SEO checklist.
